BEARS Include

Some people may find it hard to take part in research, especially if they are from a minority community or feel excluded for other reasons. It is really important that everyone has the opportunity to take part in research - and feels supported and able to do so. We want the results of our BEARS research to apply to everyone and so we want to make sure that the people who take part are similar to the population as a whole. We are committed to try and make sure that the children and young people who take part in BEARS are diverse. We spoke at a public and patient group in Southampton and asked what they thought the barriers to taking part in BEARS were. Here are a few ideas they had. We want to work hard to make sure we can overcome these barriers.

BEARS Include

We have been awarded some additional money from NIHR to work on improving the diversity of children with cochlear implants and their families engaging with BEARS. Some people may find it hard to take part in research, especially if they are from a minority community or feel excluded for other reasons. We want our research results to apply to everyone, so we want to make sure that the people who take part are similar to the population as a whole. This development project aims to look at how diverse the children involved in BEARS are, and how we can improve this.
