Earlier this month, I joined colleagues from our Clinical Research Facilities (CRFs) at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at the UK Clinical Research Facility (UKCRF) Network annual conference in Glasgow.

The conference aims to foster national collaborations and share best practice to support the delivery and management of clinical research and experimental medicine across the UK. It was an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our achievements and expertise. Staff from across our CRFs delivered 6 parallel sessions (workshops and presentations) and exhibited 4 posters, all contributing to the knowledge and development of staff across the network.

Our patients contributed to our success at the conference with their feedback and personal experiences informing and providing the content for a variety of workshops and posters. Our staff continue to contribute to the work of the network beyond the conference by developing support tools and vocational standards through their participation in national work streams (working groups) and participation in the UKCRF Network Senior Management Team (SMT).

It was fantastic to meet with so many dedicated colleagues and patients. The conference showcased  the impact our work is having on the way we treat and care for our patients all over the country. Our team have come back from the conference with new ideas and contacts that will help us to continue to improve the way we work and support our patients. We are looking forward to next year’s conference in Leeds and hope to repeat the success of 2017.
