Systems Administrator and Senior Analyst

Translational Bioinformatics

Alan studied for a BSc in chemistry at Glasgow University, followed by an MSc in materials science at the University of Aberdeen. He went on to do a PhD in x-ray crystallographic studies of interactions between DNA and anti-tumour drugs at the University of Reading.

Alan then spent 13 years as senior research fellow and computer systems administrator in the CRUK biomolecular structure group at the Institute of Cancer Research and the UCL School of Pharmacy. During this time he worked at the interface of structural biology and bioinformatics, developing novel algorithms and exploring the relationship between nucleic acid sequence and structure.

Alan’s current role is systems administrator and bioinformatician for our Biomedical Research Centre.
