The Respiratory Research Advisory Group aim to ensure that all respiratory research at Guy’s, St. Thomas’ and Kings College Hospitals is relevant and useful to patients. We meet quarterly to discuss research projects in to respiratory conditions and treatments, and a range of intensive care studies. For example, recent projects include muscle activity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), how to measure the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatments for people recovering from intensive care, and how best to support the breathing of people with obstructive sleep apnoea. At our meetings, researchers present their studies, and the group share ideas on their general impressions of projects, whether patient information is readable and informative, and how best to tell people about the findings of studies.

You do not need any previous experience of participating in research to take part, but you do need to be willing to share your thoughts with a small group. If you are interested in being part of the group and either have a respiratory condition, experience of an intensive care stay or are the family member of someone who does, please contact Jennifer Owusu-Afriyie: at 0207 188 8070.
