This trial is testing whether vaccinating sepsis survivors could improve their immune system, resulting in better long-term outcomes.

Sepsis is a common and serious condition. Patients who have recovered from sepsis are at an increased risk of new infections which can be life threatening.

The VACIRiSS trial will test whether vaccinating patients who have recovered from sepsis reduces the risk of new infections and lowers mortality.

The trial is led by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, along with five other participating hospital centres across the UK. The trial is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) as part of Dr Manu Shankar-Hari’s Clinician Scientist Award.
