Welcome to the first newsletter of the BioResource at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and King’s College London (KCL); a new bi-annual update of the developments from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) BioResource at Guy’s and St. Thomas’.

Being a part of the national NIHR BioResource, our facility at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ offers healthy volunteers and patients from our local community the opportunity to make a difference to ground breaking medical research. Our aim is to improve the future of healthcare; not only in our community and hospitals but also nationally.

Since our launch in January 2014, we have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and dedication that our volunteers have shown. More than 13,000 volunteers have registered and donated a sample, but we always need more to expedite progress of biomedical research.

This newsletter has been produced following consultation with our Patient and Public Involvement Advisory Group (PPIAG). The PPIAG plays a key role in shaping our strategy and providing us with guidance on how we can recruit more volunteers.

We are keen to hear what you think of the newsletter and answer any questions you might have about becoming a volunteer for our BioResource. You can contact the team via email at gsttbioresource@kcl.ac.uk

Thank you once again for being a BioResource volunteer and working with us to make a positive difference to the future of healthcare and outcomes for patients.
