The Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement team have set up a new Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG). This is a welcome addition to the BRC’s existing Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) groups which all support the BRC and R&D researchers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, in their work. Read more about the existing groups here.
The new YPAG has been set up with the help of six local young people who took part in the 2018 summer school, which you can read about here.
The group will meet every few months at Guy’s Hospital, and will work with the PPIE team to deliver a series of projects throughout the year. They will also have the opportunity to listen to talks from our researchers and give feedback on current research projects.
Jacintha McGahon, PPIE Manager – Involvement Lead said “The group was initiated at the request of students who attended our 2018 Summer School and expressed a wish to stay involved with the BRC and the work that we do here. We have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with them so far on the design of this group. We are excited about welcoming more members to the group and achieving great things together this year.”
Claire O’Neill, PPIE Manager, Engagement Lead added “We are delighted to have our YPAG set up and look forward to making it even bigger. The existing members are already giving us a great deal of feedback and support – for example in planning this year’s summer school. The group are so enthusiastic and it’s great for us to hear their unique points of view on our work, and suggestions for how we can improve. I look forward to what promises to be a really exciting and productive year for us.”
The group is currently recruiting more members. Applications are open to 14 – 18 year olds attending schools in Lambeth, Southwark or Lewisham. All expenses associated with attending meetings will be reimbursed, and refreshments will be provided.
