A new senior appointment has been confirmed at a crucial time for the BRC.
Ann Marie Murtagh has been appointed chief operating officer for research at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Ann Marie, who has worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ since 2010, will cover two remits; managing operations for both the BRC and the Trust’s Research and Development department.
She previously held the role of chief operating officer of the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) for South London and prior to that was a cardiovascular research nurse.
She said: “I am really looking forward to this new challenge, particularly as it coincides with the new competitive funding round that has just kicked off for all BRCs. Working with our partners, we have an opportunity to move research from being an organised activity to becoming ‘business as usual’ in the Trust. I am excited by this prospect and by my role in helping to achieve this.”
Professor Charles Wolfe, director of research and development at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, said: “To thrive as an internationally renowned centre for translational research we seek to push the boundaries of what is possible. To do that we have to employ the best people which is why we are delighted to welcome Ann Marie to the team.”
