Following its latest spending review, the Government has put protected funding settlements in place for the Department of Health’s R&D budget, which covers the BRC’s parent organisation, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

As quoted on the NIHR’s website, Professor Dame Sally C Davies, chief medical officer for England, said: “I am delighted that the Government has recognised the crucial role that science and research plays in improving the health of the people in this country and in underpinning economic growth through the life science industries.

“The protected funding settlements for the Department of Health R&D budget which includes NIHR, and for the BIS science budget which includes the research councils, are excellent outcomes given the tight fiscal constraints.”
